About this tool

Convert a TXT or CSV file between UTF-8, UTF-8 with BOM, GB18030, UTF-16 LE and UTF-16 BE. Choose the source encoding explicitly; invalid byte sequences and characters the target encoding cannot represent are reported rather than silently replaced. You can preserve line endings or normalize them to LF or CRLF. One text file up to 5 MiB is supported.

How to use

  1. Choose a TXT/CSV file and set its source encoding.
  2. Choose the target encoding and whether to keep or normalize line endings.
  3. Convert, check the preview and download converted.txt.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool guess the source encoding?

No. Select the actual encoding. A wrong choice can produce unreadable text or an explicit decoding error.

Are unsupported characters replaced?

No. The export reports an encoding error when a character cannot be represented in the chosen target encoding.
