PNG uses a fixed grid. TXT appearance depends on your viewer font.

Images stay in your browser; animations use the first frame. Only status, duration, check counts and copy/download actions are reported, without images, filenames or ASCII text.

JPG / PNG / WebP / GIF / BMP · Up to 20 MiB, 20 MP and 16384px per source edge. Output: up to 100,000 characters, 16MP and 8192px per edge.

Processed content stays in this page’s memory and cannot be recovered after clearing or closing.

About this tool

Turn JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP into classic ASCII, detailed ASCII or simple Chinese character art. Drop a file, adjust column density, font, size and inversion. Image proportions are compensated using measured glyph dimensions. All image processing stays in your browser; animations use the first frame.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop one image and wait for fonts and local processing.
  2. Adjust the density slider, character set, font, size or inversion. The preview updates after changes settle.
  3. View at Fit or 100%, copy the art, or download TXT and PNG. Clear or leave to release content.

Frequently asked questions

Are images uploaded?

No. Only status, duration, check counts and copy/download actions are reported. Images, filenames and ASCII content are never sent. Content cannot be recovered after clearing, reloading or leaving.

Why do Chinese and ASCII have different row counts?

Cell width and height depend on measured glyph dimensions. Rows compensate for the image aspect ratio. Chinese uses full-width spaces and characters; PNG uses a fixed grid. TXT appearance may vary with your viewer font.

What if a font fails to load?

Retry the font or switch to the other font. The tool does not silently substitute a system font. Noto font files must load from this site.

What are the size limits?

Up to 20MiB, 20MP and 16384px per source edge; administrators may lower these limits. Output is limited to 100,000 characters, 16MP and 8192px per edge. Reduce columns or font size if needed. SVG/HTML are unsupported.

What does inversion change?

It reverses the mapping from image brightness to character density. PNG remains black on white; transparent images are composited on white. Copy and TXT downloads include all characters and line breaks.
